  • Get Waisted at Berlin Fashion Show

    Berlin Fashion Week

I was so excited to get an invitation to attend one of the most important fashion events in Europe – the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, Berlin. Held in the first week of July this was a real opportunity to check out one of Europe’s premier fashion shows – and to pick up some tips for Get Waisted’s next catwalk show!

Berlin has become “the next big thing” on the European fashion circuit by concentrating on promoting the work of large numbers of exciting, talented and innovative young designers who continuously push the boundaries of creativity.

This show also has a real sense of place and occasion having taken place at the Brandenburg Gate in 2007. This year it was held at Bebelplatz in the centre of Berlin and was the perfect historical backdrop for the designer collections.

And so to the shows….what an inspiration with compelling collections from designers from all over the world that nonetheless reflected that ‘newness’ and creativity as opposed to the (possibly?) faded glories of the traditional couture houses that seem somehow less in keeping with today’s ‘zeitgeist’. We had Custo Barcelona, Black Coffee from South Africa, GANT (now Swedish with an American heritage), Anja Gockel from London and a number of German designers. Speaking of which my personal favourite was Schumacher. Dorothee Schumacher presented her Fall/Winter 2009/2010 collection which was all about understated elegance – full of soft shades like caramel and coffee – and very wearable but beautifully tailored fabrics in jersey, cotton, silk and chiffon.

It wasn’t all work though – I had the opportunity to sample the delights of Berlin’s most splendid boulevard, Unter den Linden, picking up a sense of history before moving (swiftly!) on to the luxurious Friedrichstrasse with its upmarket shopping and delightful bars and coffee shops. All this was conveniently close to Bebelplatz and the beautiful Hotel du Rome – an oasis of calm in our frenetic schedule.

Finally, a big, big THANK YOU to my friend Igor Srzic-Carthedge – expert guide and personal shopper & stylist par excellence. Brighton based Igor has a mind boggling knowledge of the worlds fashion hot spots (and is currently pursuing all that’s hot in New York). Ah well, it’s back to Brighton for me and getting on with putting the Get Waisted collection ‘out there’.

    Brighton Frocks Fashion Weekend…

Well it finally arrived and went, what a fanfare.
The theatrical catwalk show was spectacular and boy did I enjoy it. With a few nerves but mostly just a sense of real anticipation ‘my models’ (note the proprietorial tone!) sashayed their way down the catwalk… all to appreciative whoops and hollers from the sellout audience, we ROCKED the catwalk. Check out the photos and video clips on the Get Waisted events page at http://www.getwaisted.co.uk/events.html

    Can't wait for next year

    SUNNY DELIGHTS

Sunny Days are here, and what better excuse could you have for a new outfit? A lot of you will have lots of opportunities to show off at everything from sophisticated soirees to ladies' days at the races.

One of the hot colours we can see around is a vibrant yellow/lemon - it's so striking especially on tanned skin.
With brighter sunny days, Spring saw the big designers bringing out their new collections and floral designs featured prominently with Nicole Farhi, Oscar de la Renta and Moschino amongst others. Or, how about optical prints – if you want to be right up to the minute Mathew Williamson, Alexander McQueen and Miu Miu all had some stunning designs in their summer collections –

And please, please...please don’t leave it until the last minute before you contact me for that special outfit.

Off to Berlin fashion week now... go green girls (that's not a fashion tip!).

  • "Get Waisted" with Brighton Frocks

    !!!!NEWS FLASH !!!! NEWS FLASH!!!!

"GET WAISTED" AT BRIGHTON FASHION WEEKEND

Brighton Fashion weekend returns for its’ 5th year over the Bank Holiday Weekend 22-24 May. Fashionistas and just those with a passing interest in fun and fashion alike are bracing themselves for an exhilarating weekend of events.

The highlight of the weekend is a Theatrical Catwalk Show to be held at the Hilton Brighton Metropole on Friday 22nd and featuring the work of 12 innovative and cutting edge designers (including Get Waisted!). Also featuring are Tom Lipop of Sky One’s Project Catwalk fame with his first collection and other local designers Renaissance, Suzie Turner, Jo Fleming, Gresham Blake.

This event is also supporting breast and cervical cancer research. This is something I have been personally touched by recently and am particularly be pleased to help in any way I can.

AND GUESS WHAT? YOU GET TO SHOP......

Of course you do! Over the Saturday and Sunday 23rd/24th the Brighton Frocks Fashion Emporium will take place with sales of clothes, textiles, jewellery and eyewear.

In addition there are all sorts of events going on both at the Hilton and across town featuring open studios, demonstrations, DJ’s and fashion installations across the city. Look out for Get Waisted models on the pier and at the Emporium.

This event is going to be huge and has already attracted major sponsors like Red Bull, Barefoot Wines and our very own Juice 107.2. I can barely contain my excitement (you can tell can’t you) but it is genuine – even if the work involved can seem overwhelming at times

    SPRING IS HERE...HURRAY

With summer around the corner,we are now looking at ways to look and feel good.
With a flatter stomach, smaller waist and boosted cleavage, slipping into the tightest of bodycon (that's body-conscious) dresses in a matter of weeks can be tricky.
The oldest trick in the book when it comes to stomach cinching: standing with your stomach drawn in, tie a piece of string around your waist underneath clothes so that it fits snugly without digging into your flesh.
Originally used by deportment schools to train their students to keep their figures held in, the string will become tight and uncomfortable should you slouch and relax your stomach muscles throughout the day, and acts as a gentle reminder to keep yourself pulled in.
Wear the string for a month and the reflex to engage your muscles will kick in,

Alternatively, brush up on your belt work. If you've long since limited them to your jeans, now's the time to get adventurous. Invest in a "Get Waisted" Cincher. Belted dresses, wide floaty skirts and dresses, in bright tropical colours are going to be huge this summer and will help exaggerate your waist, while also creating curvier-looking hips.

  • A girl's gotta have it!

Well, the media is full of those Oscar frocks (some great and some from the frocky horror show) and London Fashion Week is in full swing (I'm just off to one of the catwalk shows now where I expect to see some of the latest trends...tailored trouser suits, boyfriend blazers and 'Chanelesque' box jackets). I'll let you know what excites!

TOP TIP - raid the boyfriends closet...you can always add your own touches (or get Get Waisted to help you out).

So, if you want/need/must have something inspired by the Oscar red carpet parade or by something you have seen in the media from London Fashion Week....call now...details on my website at www.getwaisted.co.uk

  • Fashion Fix for Seasonal Excess!

So,the feeding and drinking frenzy that is Christmas, New Year, Hanukkah etc. is over and you never want to see a mince pie, glass of champagne or latkes again. Well the gym and dieting are all very well and admirable but you want something that makes a difference NOW. So, rather than struggle with jeans that ‘must have shrunk in the wash’ or belts that miraculously seem to have fewer holes why not try a corset or corset belt? You will be amazed at the results – and you don’t have to break your ribs to achieve the desired effect. Then, when you are ready and the gym et al have done their job you can treat yourself to a marvellous dress designed just for you. Maybe something that takes as its’ inspiration one of those delicious ‘forties retro’, Roland Mouret monochrome outfits – reflecting a more austere mood without compromising on the style.

And all in time for Valentines day!

    A girls’ night in
You may have heard of the Get Waisted ‘corset parties’. It is a great way to have a fun evening with ‘a twist’. The ‘Hostess’ receives 20% of the value of sales made on the night. You will have the full support of Get Waisted – I provide a full range of samples and everything you need to ‘Look – Try – Buy’.

In today’s market we are seeing an emphasis on style, design and quality. Increasingly this has seen a steady rise in the number of women turning to a trusted local tailor or dressmaker. And who can blame them – you get exactly what you want at a price you can afford and certainly much less than it would cost to approach a named designer.

Long may it continue – not that I’m biased of course!

Call me or email me NOW if you are interested in hosting a party

  • Get Waisted Fashion show - what a night!

Well,I think I have finally come down after the fashion show at the Sky Bar on Thursday. First of all thank you, thank you to everyone that made it happen. We raised £300 for Whoopsadaisy childrens charity and (more or less) everything went to plan!

It can be hard to tell just what goes on when you are so involved especially when you spend most of the time behind the scenes getting the models and their outfits sorted. But I have received so many calls, texts and emails that it must have been fine.

We had a full house with over 60 people, a great venue and a wonderful team of models, organisers, local business sponsors and helpers of various kinds.

But, this is also a business. So, please if you read this and saw something you liked (or couldn't attend but have since 'got the word')do get in touch as soon as you can. I would love to talk to you about your requirements.

You can also preview photos of the show at Phase photographic - just go to the link http://fcphoto.ukphotolabs.com/mp_client/pictures.asp and click on Get Waisted at the Sky Bar,

    Ta ta for now,

    Toni

  • Fashion Lovers

Why is it so hard to get to where you want to go - I am talking about your dreams.
Fashion is a tough industry. If you have just entered into the fashion industry, you will soon find out exactly how tough - but if you love fashion this will be the challenge - we can all dream big dreams but only a few of us have decided to live it. I've seen many great, creative and fashionable people - this includes designers, photographers, production technicians, models, stylists, etc .....and this is just the beginning of a long list. This has convinced me that everyone has the talent to achieve their passion and their dreams - now the question is... have you? I believe you have.
